Zix Corporation Signs Contract with U.S. Department of Treasury's Office of Thrift Supervision for Secure e-Messaging

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 2003--

Savings Associations Increasing Email Security to Meet Regulations of Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act

Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(TM)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of protection, management, and delivery solutions for electronic communications, today announced a contract with the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, for secure e-messaging to ensure confidential communications to all savings associations in the country. The OTS regulates and supervises all federally chartered and many state-chartered thrift institutions in order to maintain their safety, soundness, and compliance with consumer laws.

OTS purchased a suite of services including ZixAuditor(R), ZixVPM(R) (Virtual Private Messenger) for 500 users, and ZixPort(TM). ZixAuditor is an assessment service that helps organizations identify email security vulnerabilities prior to implementation and monitors effectiveness afterwards. ZixVPM is an enterprise-wide solution that provides policy-driven secure email to ensure complete interoperability with other financial institutions whether they currently use ZixCorp services or not. ZixPort provides the OTS's existing Web portal with private and secure communications capabilities while minimizing the impact to its existing IT, Web, and security infrastructures. By protecting confidential information being sent via email, OTS is working to comply with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), which includes provisions to protect consumers' personal financial information held by financial institutions.

ZixCorp's contract with the OTS follows its recently signed contract with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), a U.S. Treasury bureau that charters, regulates, and supervises all national banks.

"Over the past year we have succeeded in becoming the de facto standard within the healthcare industry for secure e-messaging after signing such prominent organizations as Humana and Ascension Health," said John A. Ryan, chairman, president, and CEO of ZixCorp. "We are now looking to replicate this model within the banking and finance industry. More and more, organizations look to us because we have the most comprehensive secure e-messaging offerings and are the easiest to deploy and implement in the industry. With our solution, there is no need to hire additional technical staff to maintain the system and our send-to-anyone capability enables the end user to send secure email to anyone that has an email address. ZixCorp's trusted services will not only help these organizations comply with GLBA, but will also ensure that all of their private business email communications remain secure, confidential, and impervious to Internet hackers."

The OTS also joins several prominent financial institutions using ZixCorp communications protection services including American Savings Bank, Baker Boyer Bank, Bank von Ernst, Cape Cod Bank and Trust, Farm Credit Financial Partners, Hawthorne Savings Federal Savings Bank, Marshall & Ilsley Corp., Provident Bank, Red Capital Group, Savings Bank of Manchester, United Security Bank, and Wilber National Bank.
