DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2005--Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging, e-prescribing, and e-transaction applications and services, today announced that three nonprofit regional hospitals have each signed a three-year contract for ZixCorp's ZixVPM(R) (Virtual Private Messenger) email encryption service for a combined 550 users to meet the email mandates of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
The new ZixVPM users are Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Ohio; Habersham County Medical Center in Demorest, Ga.; and Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg, Ohio. The service will enforce company-wide email policies for each facility to ensure secure handling of confidential patient data, including a pre-configured HIPAA lexicon that automatically detects protected health information.
ZixVPM uses ZixCorp's Best Method of Delivery(TM) to ensure that email is sent in the most efficient and secure way. The Best Method of delivery eliminates human error and ensures the safest delivery transparently and seamlessly. The process automatically determines if the recipient is a ZixCorp client, or if the sender's message needs to be held in the ZixMessage Center(TM) or a branded portal for retrieval.
"ZixVPM is flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of every size organization, from large hospital systems to small regional organizations like these," said Rick Spurr, chief executive officer for ZixCorp. "ZixVPM enables send-to-anyone capability, transparency to the users, ease of management, and seamless integration. Our years of experience with secure e-messaging have taught us that these are the requirements for the vast majority of buyers."
