Zix Corporation Selected by Stormont-Vail HealthCare for e-Messaging Security

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2004--

Kansas Hospital to Employ ZixVPM(R) and ZixPort(R) Communications Protection Services for 1,850 Users

Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging, e-prescribing, and e-transaction applications and services, today announced that Stormont-Vail HealthCare, an integrated healthcare system that includes Kansas' second oldest hospital, has chosen ZixCorp solutions to protect its email system-wide. The health system selected ZixCorp to assist with compliance of the secure email mandates of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

Stormont-Vail purchased ZixVPM(R) (Virtual Private Messenger) and ZixPort(R) enterprise-wide services to secure its inbound and outbound email communications for 1,850 users. ZixVPM will enforce email security policies to ensure secure handling of confidential data, including a pre-configured HIPAA lexicon that detects Protected Health Information (PHI). ZixPort will provide custom branding and encrypted messaging functionality to the hospital's Web site.

"We realized how easy it is for our users to send unsecured PHI in emails and ZixVPM enables us to automatically encrypt those messages without having to load desktop software," said Shawn Finley, data security coordinator for Stormont-Vail HealthCare. "Also of interest was ZixCorp's User Awareness Program. With so many users, it gave us one place where all our employees could go to understand our email security policies and how ZixVPM helps enforce them."

The ZixCorp User Awareness Programs provide organizations with the tools to communicate email security decisions and policies to employees and partners. Materials include a co-branded Web site, quick start cards, posters, brochures, policy letters, and instructional sheets.

The Topeka-based healthcare system includes Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center, which is the product of a merger between Christ's Hospital (founded in 1884) and the Jane C. Stormont Hospital and Training School for Nurses (founded in 1894). It has grown from a four-story hospital to a 586-bed acute-care referral center for northeast Kansas.

"We are excited to help a nationally recognized healthcare institution like Stormont-Vail meet their secure e-messaging needs," said Rick Spurr, president and chief operating officer for ZixCorp. "We are dedicated to providing our customers with the best available customer service, technical excellence, and training. Our User Awareness Programs are just one example of that and have proven to be a significant aid in achieving exceptional customer satisfaction."
