Zix Corporation Selected by Aetna for e-Prescribing Initiative; National Health Benefits Company to Support Access for up to 1,000 New Jersey Physicians to PocketScript(R) Electronic Prescribing Service

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 11, 2005--Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq: ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging, e-prescribing, and e-transaction applications and services, today announced that Aetna, one of the nation's leading health benefits companies, has signed an agreement for a pilot program designed to support access to ZixCorp's PocketScript e-prescribing service for up to 1,000 physicians in New Jersey. The agreement represents the fulfillment of a previously announced Letter of Intent.

"e-Prescribing is one way Aetna can encourage participating providers in New Jersey to access and communicate important information at the point of care, with the potential to help providers improve patient safety, increase efficiencies at the pharmacy and healthcare provider's office, and reduce prescription costs," said Thomas Howe, M.D., Aetna New Jersey medical director.

The initiative provides selected primary care providers in Aetna's New Jersey network with access to ZixCorp's comprehensive e-prescribing service, which includes: a wireless handheld PDA; the PocketScript e-prescribing application; wireless connectivity; access to data, formulary, eligibility, and pharmacy information; training; service; and support for up to one year.

PocketScript will enable certain physicians participating in Aetna's New Jersey network to write and generate electronic prescriptions directly to pharmacies through either a wireless handheld PDA or a secure Web site. The application includes formulary information that enables physicians to easily obtain information regarding Aetna's preferred drug list (also known as a formulary). It also includes access to a drug reference guide, drug-to-drug and drug-to-allergy screening information, and certain information regarding patients' drug claim histories.

PocketScript can help enhance patient safety through improved prescription legibility, reduce patient and health plan costs, and improve office efficiency for prescribers and pharmacies.

"We are proud to be working with Aetna, one of America's leading and most respected health benefits organizations," said Rick Spurr, chief executive officer of Zix Corporation. "Aetna's demonstrated leadership in pursuit of safety, quality, and cost efficiencies is well known. When a leader like Aetna recognizes and invests in the value proposition of e-prescribing, it speaks loudly to the entire healthcare industry."

Physician recruitment to participate in the New Jersey pilot initiative is expected to begin immediately.
