Zix Corporation Renews Service Contract for U.S. Department of Treasury's Office of Thrift Supervision

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2005--

Thrift Industry Overseer Signs Continuation for Secure Messaging

Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq: ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging, e-prescribing, and e-transaction applications and services, today announced that the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, has signed a renewal contract for secure e-messaging.

The OTS renewal agreement covers 500 users for ZixVPM(R) (Virtual Private Messenger) and Zix Port(R) communication protection services. ZixVPM's system-wide encryption service enforces email privacy policies to ensure secure handling of confidential information, including a built-in personal financial lexicon that automatically encrypts email containing data mandated by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) as personally identifiable financial information.

ZixPort provides custom branding and encrypted messaging features to the OTS's Web portal. It also provides full-featured functionality so that end users can send private information such as billing records, sensitive client data, or financial statements to anyone whether they are a ZixCorp customer or not.

"The renewal of the OTS, in addition to the recent renewal of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, emphasizes the continued importance of secure email communications in the banking community," said Rick Spurr, president and chief operating officer for ZixCorp. "Our 97 percent rate of ZixVPM renewals has proven that ZixCorp's send-to-anyone, easy-to-use services serve a valued role in the enforcement of secure email policies and good business practices."

The banking industry has put privacy as a top concern due to the threat of identity theft and the pressures of legislative actions such as GLBA and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. ZixVPM and ZixPort address these issues to ensure all emails that contain sensitive information are kept confidential.

OTS purchased its solutions through ZixCorp's partner Solutions By Design II, a provider of enterprise applications to meet business objectives.
