Zix Corporation Releases PocketScript(R) 6.01; Latest Version of E-Prescribing Service Includes Functionality for Subpractices, Internal Comments, and Additional Features for Increased Usability

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 2005--Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging and e-prescribing solutions and services, today announced the availability of PocketScript 6.01, the latest version of its e-prescribing service. This latest release includes features that increase functionality, convenience, and flexibility.

PocketScript enables physicians to write prescriptions using a wireless handheld PDA or a secure Web site. Prescriptions are then delivered directly to pharmacies, providing greater legibility and improved communication. The PocketScript service also includes formulary information, a drug reference guide, drug-to-drug and drug-to-allergy interaction checking, and access to dispensed drug history.

PocketScript 6.01 adds multiple features for large practices with physicians who are geographically dispersed. Subpractices will be able to view lists, run reports, and perform maintenance functions for their specific groups instead of the entire practice, which improves usability. In addition, PocketScript 6.01 enables users to add clinical comments for internal use and notes to the pharmacy for clarification.

Lahey Clinic Medical Center, a multi-specialty group practice and nonprofit teaching hospital in Burlington, Mass., provided input for subpractice functionality and is the first practice to utilize the functionality.

"Lahey Clinic has over 450 geographically and departmentally dispersed providers. Therefore, it was important for us to implement a system that supports decentralized provider use while simultaneously supporting centralized patient medication lists and reporting," said Deb Campaniello, project manager for Lahey Clinic Medical Center." Lahey is committed to innovation through partnership. By working directly with Lahey, ZixCorp was able to develop a system that would improve our efficiency and patient care."

Nigel Johnson, vice president of business development and product management for ZixCorp emphasized the importance of listening to the needs of users. "As PocketScript's user base has grown, the service has and will continue to evolve to incorporate prescriber suggestions and to ensure optimal usability and convenience," said Johnson. "We are committed to improving patient safety and office efficiency. Providing a solution that has the flexibility to meet increased demand for healthcare practices of all sizes demonstrates our desire for long-term leadership in the market."
