Zix Corporation Provides Complete Laboratory Connectivity Services to The Valley Hospital

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 2004--

New Jersey's Second Busiest Hospital Signs Three-Year Contract to Use Dr. Chart(R) for Automated Order Entry and Results Reporting

Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging, e-prescribing, and e-transaction applications and services, today announced that The Valley Hospital (Valley), a 451-bed fully accredited nonprofit hospital in Ridgewood, N.J., has selected ZixCorp's Dr. Chart service to provide laboratory client connectivity. The hospital signed a three-year contract that includes the purchase of the Dr. Chart Web product and options to enable a complete toolset of connectivity interfaces.

Dr. Chart is a Web-based communications tool that connects healthcare providers and laboratories. It enables doctors to initiate lab orders, check medical necessity compliance, and view results rapidly and accurately using an encrypted Internet connection. Focusing on technology and functionality that is relevant to both doctors' offices and labs, Dr. Chart automates processes that can place a burden on laboratory operations. Now deploying its fifth generation of laboratory connectivity solutions, Dr. Chart is unmatched in flexibility and ease of use.

"Dr. Chart's robust functionality is impressive. While we feel the technology is the best offering available, we were also impressed with Dr. Chart's straightforward, easy-to-use screens and functions," said Larry Bologna, director of laboratory services for Valley. "Dr. Chart's flexible interface engine makes it unique in the marketplace and we look forward to providing physicians their lab connectivity requests."

The Valley Hospital is part of Valley Health System that also includes Valley Home Care and Valley Health Medical Group. According to the most recent statistics available, Valley is the second busiest hospital in New Jersey. It offers healthcare services through its 800 physicians, 3,000 employees, and 4,000 volunteers. Last year, Valley was recognized for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program and with a Magnet Award for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

"Whether it is physician office interfaces, electronic medical record interfaces, long-term care standing order modules, secure messaging, or other components, Dr. Chart covers the spectrum of connectivity needs for the medical laboratory marketplace," said Rick Spurr, president and chief operating officer for ZixCorp. "Dr. Chart provides a simple and easy-to-use order entry and results reporting product for the laboratory."
