DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 29, 2003-- Acute Care Hospitals to Use ZixCorp Services to Comply with HIPAA Regulations
Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(TM)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of e-messaging management and protection services, today announced it has been selected by IASIS Healthcare Corporation, a leading owner and operator of acute care hospitals across the United States, to provide email encryption for 2,250 users, anti-spam, anti-virus, content filtering and archiving -- all services provided by ZixWorks(TM). ZixWorks is a hosted and managed service operating outside a company's network that acts as a forward perimeter defense or firewall against external email threats, protects customer networks, and reduces wasted network bandwidth. The service satisfies the growing number of requirements for managing email with one simple solution and is suited for both large and small organizations. Humana Inc., ranked as the 7th largest company in the health benefits provider industry by Fortune Magazine, is an example of a larger corporation currently using ZixWorks.
IASIS Healthcare purchased ZixWorks in order to secure and manage emails containing patients' Protected Health Information (PHI) in compliance with the April 14 deadline of the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. Eddie Gadsey, IT manager of IASIS Healthcare, believes strongly that electronic transmission of PHI should be encrypted not only because of the HIPAA regulations, but because "it's the right thing to do for any corporation dealing with confidential information."
According to Ferris Research, spam will cost U.S. organizations over $10 billion in 2003 and accounts for 15% to 20% of inbound email with U.S.-based corporate organizations. "ZixWorks was designed to provide all the necessary protection for email communication in one simple solution," says Daniel S. Nutkis, vice president of products and strategy. "A company can implement our entire suite of outsourced services in a matter of days without the associated complexity and unnecessary costs of maintaining the services in-house."
ZixWorks operates within the ZixCorp SecureCenter(TM), a fully redundant network operations center dedicated to secure e-message processing with a demonstrated 99.99% availability. Staffed 24 hours a day with operations personnel constantly monitoring the facilities, networks, and systems, the SecureCenter eliminates the need for companies to build and staff their own secure e-messaging centers.
ZixWorks is also supported by the ZixResearch Center(TM), where dedicated researchers continuously update spam and virus definitions and content scanning policies, including those mandated by HIPAA. The ZixResearch Center brings together a broad range of expertise in all aspects of e-messaging security and management.
