Zix Corporation Offers Free Web Seminar on Potential Pitfalls of e-Messaging Security Decisions

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 2003--

Webinar Jan. 15 is Third in a Series Related to HIPAA Compliance Issues

Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(TM)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging services, today announced it will conduct a Web seminar Jan. 15 highlighting the importance of understanding end-user requirements when evaluating e-messaging security solutions.

The Webinar is the third in a four-part series "Countdown to HIPAA Email Compliance -- Understanding the Issues, Simplifying Deployment" presented by ZixCorp. The series is designed to show how compliance with guidelines of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as applied to email security benefits an entire organization, from risk management planning to full deployment of a solution. Previous topics in the series included strategies for Internet risk management featuring attorney John Christiansen of Preston Gates & Ellis and e-messaging as a strategic decision featuring Joyce Graff of Gartner, Inc. Replays of these prior presentations are available from the ZixCorp Web site at www.zixcorp.com/series. The final Webinar in the series will be presented next month.

The Webinar "Will Your Secure e-Messaging for HIPAA Fail for All the 'Right' Reasons?" will be presented by Russell Morgan, vice president, client services for ZixCorp. Morgan will examine the practical features necessary for user-friendly e-messaging security solutions and inform participants of the consequences of choosing a system without considering the end-user perspective.

"The short time left to meet the HIPAA privacy deadline may be forcing some CIOs and IT managers to select inappropriate products or services to remediate their organizations' email privacy concerns. Managers looking at solutions from the perspective of the organization rather than that of the user may attempt to adapt an internal email security solution for external email security, creating a system so unwieldy for the end user that no one uses it. In the process, they may unwittingly be setting their organizations up for potential failure in meeting the goals of HIPAA regarding the transmission of sensitive information," said Morgan.

"ZixCorp will show how balancing the organization's requirements for compliance, manageability, and cost effectiveness with the end user's need for practicality can result in choosing a long-lasting, workable secure email solution," he continued. "ZixCorp's targeted focus on the healthcare sector, its unique specialized assessment and policy management tools, and its considerable experience in the marketplace analyzing the requirements of the organization as a whole including executive policy makers, internal and external users, and IT departments -- enable ZixCorp to provide a comprehensive, send-to-anyone secure e-messaging solution that makes achieving HIPAA compliance transparent to the end user and easy for the IT department."

The Webinar will be broadcast Jan. 15, 2003, at 3:00 ET (2:00 CT) at www.zixcorp.com/series. Registration is required and may be obtained at the Web site.
