DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 2005--Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq: ZIXI), a global provider of secure email encryption and e-prescribing solutions and services, today announced that H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, a not-for-profit healthcare organization based in Tampa, Fla., has signed a contract for ZixCorp's system-wide content filtering and email encryption services for 3,000 users.
Moffitt purchased ZixVPM (Virtual Private Messenger) and ZixPort email protection services as part of its efforts to comply with rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). ZixVPM will enforce email policies to ensure secure handling of confidential data, including a preconfigured HIPAA lexicon that automatically detects and encrypts protected health information (PHI). ZixPort will provide Moffitt's Web site with custom branding and encrypted messaging functionality.
"ZixCorp's leadership in securing the email for the healthcare community was a big factor in choosing its services," said Ed Martinez, vice president information technology/chief information officer for Moffitt. "Once we saw the ease and usefulness of the content filtering lexicon, we were sold."
Moffitt Cancer Center includes the Southeast's largest blood and marrow transplant program, outpatient cancer treatment programs that record more than 180,000 visits a year, the Moffitt Research Center, the Moffitt Clinic at Tampa General Hospital, and the Lifetime Cancer Screening and Prevention Center.
"ZixCorp continues to build business in the health care market," said Rick Spurr, chief executive officer for ZixCorp. "Our fast deployment and interoperability have helped make our ZixVPM service a leading solution for the healthcare community."
