Zix Corporation Chosen by Temple University Health System for Suite of Communications Protection Services

Regional System Signs Three-Year Contract for Email Encryption, Anti-Spam, and Anti-Virus Solutions

DALLAS, Dec 8, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging, e-prescribing, and e-transaction applications and services, today announced that Temple University Health System (TUHS), a Philadelphia-based system with a range of academic and community-based services, has selected ZixCorp for system-wide communications protection services. TUHS signed a three-year contract for ZixVPM(R) (Virtual Private Messenger), ZixPort(R), Message Inspector(R) with Anti-Virus, and Web Inspector(R) services for 4,500 users.

"No other vendor was able to offer all the services we needed to protect our network from PHI leaks, spam attacks, virus outbreaks, and inappropriate Web sites," said Ron Bowersock, chief privacy officer for TUHS. "ZixCorp's best-of-breed, easy-to-use services will help us meet government email mandates and increase the productivity of our employees by reducing spam and viruses. Its expertise and understanding of the specific challenges healthcare organizations face with email and network security made ZixCorp the best choice for us."

TUHS purchased ZixVPM and ZixPort email encryption services to help it meet the April 2005 security deadline of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). ZixVPM will encrypt email messages system-wide to protect both inbound and outbound communications and includes a HIPAA lexicon that automatically recognizes Protected Health Information (PHI) to ensure compliance and confidentiality. ZixPort will provide custom branding and encrypted messaging capability to the system's Web site.

For full network security and protection, TUHS also purchased Message Inspector with Anti-Virus and Web Inspector. Message Inspector is a multi-level email management tool that combines advanced spam and content filtering technologies with enhanced administration tools and leading anti-virus software to provide an easy-to-manage solution. Web Inspector helps organizations enforce Internet acceptable use policies by monitoring and blocking inappropriate Web sites.

"Having a prestigious health system like Temple University Health System select our full suite of Communications Protection solutions is gratifying," said Rick Spurr, president and chief operating officer for ZixCorp. "ZixCorp's suite is the most comprehensive available. ZixVPM contains industry-specific filters for accuracy. Message Inspector has proven to be highly effective, and Web Inspector can markedly increase employee productivity. Most important, they all integrate seamlessly with existing systems, are easy to use, and are quick to deploy."
