Zix Corporation Announces Availability of Smart Phones for 24/7 e-Prescribing Capability

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2006--Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), the leader in hosted services for email encryption and e-prescribing, today announced support for several new smart phones for use with its PocketScript e-prescribing service. The company also recently released PocketScript 6.55, the latest version of its e-prescribing service which delivers integrated medication history information.

ZixCorp's PocketScript(R) e-prescribing service enables physicians to write prescriptions electronically and send them directly to pharmacies through either a wireless handheld PDA, smart phone or a secure Web site. The service allows bi-directional communications between a pharmacist and PocketScript users to greatly enhance the prescription renewal process, provides patient co-pay information at the point-of-care and adds additional convenience features for physicians and their staff. The application also includes formulary information, a drug reference guide, drug-to-drug and drug-to-allergy checking, and patient-specific drug-dispensed lists. ZixCorp recently announced the company's electronic prescription processing count was 1.3 million for this past quarter.

"We continue to look for ways to bring greater efficiencies into the physician's office and eliminating the need to carry multiple devices enables prescribers to have greater flexibility with their time as they can write scripts anywhere, anytime." said Rick Spurr, chief executive officer for ZixCorp. "e-Prescribing is revolutionizing the healthcare industry and increasing patient safety as evidenced by statistics recently released by the eRx Collaborative in Massachusetts, which continue to validate the strong need for broader adoption of the technology. Integrating the smart phone device option into our service gives physicians another reason to bring PocketScript into their workflow."

ZixCorp is offering Sprint PPC-6700, Samsung i730, T-Mobile MDA, Cingular 8125 and Verizon XV6700 as smart phone choices for its PocketScript service. As previously announced, the company's combined e-prescribing programs are experiencing tremendous success with over 70 percent of prescriptions written on formulary and nearly 50 percent of prescriptions generated through PocketScript are generic drugs.
