Zix Corporation Adds Three New Healthcare Organizations to Client List; Regional Facilities Sign Three-Year Contracts for ZixVPM System-Wide Email Encryption

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 2005--Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of secure e-messaging, e-prescribing, and e-transaction applications and services, today announced that three regional healthcare organizations have recently chosen ZixCorp as their secure email provider: STAR Anesthesia, P.A., Community Medical Center of Scranton, Penn., and The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.

Each organization signed a three-year contract for ZixVPM(R) (Virtual Private Messenger) email protection to help meet the security guidelines of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) by the April Security Rule deadline. ZixVPM will provide system-wide email encryption and includes a built-in HIPAA lexicon that detects outgoing protected health information to ensure compliance and patient confidentiality.

STAR Anesthesia, P.A., a physician medical group that provides anesthesia services throughout San Antonio, purchased the service for 500 users. Community Medical Center of Scranton, Penn., a nonprofit system providing healthcare services to Northeastern Pennsylvania will have 600 users. And The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, a general acute-care hospital in Torrington, Conn., purchased ZixVPM for 300 users.

"We're getting very close to the April HIPAA Security Rule deadline, and we've seen an expected increase in new contracts for our encryption services," said Rick Spurr, chief executive officer for ZixCorp. "Meeting this tight deadline is no problem, as most ZixVPM deployments take less than a day to activate. And since the service is invisible to end users, there's no learning curve and no disruption to productivity."
