DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 6, 2006--Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), a global provider of email encryption and e-prescribing services, today announced an OpenPGP Gateway module for its email encryption service. The new offering will enable organizations to communicate securely with external users who use PGP encryption technology for securing email messages.
ZixCorp's new module is interoperable with PGP Freeware version 7.x and PGP Corporation's PGP Desktop versions 8.x and 9.x, and will manage PGP certificates to ensure security policies are enforced at the corporate level. Internal users are shielded from the complexity and burden of key management, security decisions, and cryptography. "PGP (Pretty Good Privacy)" is a registered trademark of PGP Corporation.
"Interoperability and send-to-anyone convenience are the driving forces of ZixCorp email encryption services," said Rick Spurr, chief executive officer for ZixCorp. "This new OpenPGP module complements our existing TLS and S/MIME gateway solutions to ensure that organizations have quick, automatic methods to communicate securely and seamlessly with all their partners and customers no matter what technology they may use."
OpenPGP is defined by the OpenPGP Working Group of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Proposed Standard RFC 2440. The OpenPGP standard was originally derived from PGP (Pretty Good Privacy), which is a hybrid cryptosystem that combines features of conventional and public key cryptography. Developed in 1991, PGP is available as both a standalone application and a plug-in to many popular email client applications.
ZixCorp's newly integrated OpenPGP Gateway module is available immediately.
