Thomson PDR and ZixCorp Team Up to Enhance ePrescribing Solution

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 2004--Thomson PDR, a part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE:TOC)(TSX:TOC), the leader in information solutions for healthcare and scientific professionals, announced today an agreement with Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)) (Nasdaq:ZIXI) to integrate prescription drug briefs derived from Physicians Desk Reference(R) (PDRConcise) into the ZixCorp ePrescribing solution, PocketScript(TM).

It is estimated that medication errors caused by illegible handwritten prescriptions or avoidable drug interaction runs over $1 billion a year and up to 7,000 people die each year in U.S. hospitals and outpatient settings. ePrescribing hits these issues straight on. ePrescribing reduces the chance of medical errors by enabling clinicians to electronically transmit prescriptions directly to the pharmacist, minimizing the opportunity for error. Integrating PDRConcise into PocketScript gives clinicians quick access to drug indications and therapies, allowing them to better serve their patients.

"Physicians require current and complete drug information to prescribe drugs safely. As the leading source of medication information, PDR is an apt complement to ZixCorp's ePrescribing solution, PocketScript," said Dr. Daniel Sands, vice president and chief medical officer for ZixCorp.

"We see two trends accelerating physician adoption of ePrescribing over the next few years. First, we continue moving toward ePrescribing legislation and second, we're striking the critical balance between ease of use and functionality. More physicians are augmenting their clinical workflow with electronic information and tools like ePrescribing," said David Duplay, executive vice president for Thomson PDR.
