Minnesota's Community Health Information Collaborative Selects Zix Corporation's Email Encryption Service for New Information Exchange

Innovative Multi-County Initiative to Use ZixCorp for Initial Backbone in Building Regional Healthcare Information Organization (RHIO)

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 2007--Zix Corporation (ZixCorp(R)), (Nasdaq:ZIXI), the leader in hosted services for email encryption and e-prescribing, today announced that Minnesota-based Community Health Information Collaborative (CHIC) has selected ZixCorp's Email Encryption Service to serve as the initial infrastructure for its new information exchange initiative.

The initial CHIC encryption pilot involves Carlton and Itasca counties, along with Ecumen, one of the country's largest non-profit senior housing companies. During the pilot, the participants will use ZixCorp's service to communicate securely and seamlessly via email. After the CHIC pilot period, the Company's encryption service could be installed in up to 20 more county entities to support the ongoing secure transmission of sensitive information.

ZixCorp will enforce email security policies to ensure secure handling of confidential medical information for CHIC members. The service includes a pre-configured lexicon that automatically detects and encrypts protected health information (PHI), per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). "A person can have many people in his or her care network," said Larry Jorgensen, chief information officer of Ecumen. "It's essential for our customers that, as that network expands, they are assured that their private information can be securely shared with physicians, caregivers and others involved in care. ZixCorp's Email Encryption Service is an innovative tool for sharing that information securely."

"CHIC's forward-thinking, collaborative approach to promoting secure communications within Minnesota's healthcare entities uses a widely accepted means of communication - email - to solve a problem prevalent throughout the U.S. healthcare system - the secure sharing of PHI. CHIC wants to bring best-of-breed technology solutions to the healthcare community and ZixCorp continues to be the leader in securing email for the healthcare sector," said Rick Spurr, chief executive officer for ZixCorp. "CHIC members will also greatly benefit from and expand the Company's large, interconnected network of health insurance plans and healthcare organizations through our ZixDirectory."

As the leading email encryption provider with more than 7.5 million protected email recipients, ZixCorp's vast network allows seamless encrypted email delivery to healthcare organizations, insurers, financial institutions and the federal banking regulatory agencies. ZixCorp supports five encrypted email delivery mechanisms including S/MIME, TLS, OpenPGP, secure portal and "push" delivery.
